5 Ways to Stay Productive This Summer

Summer is here! It’s time to kick back, soak in the sun, and relax after a hard semester’s worth of work and studying. But have you ever felt like the summer holiday passes you by, the days leaving you feeling lethargic and lazy? The long holiday break is a great time for some well-deserved rest. However, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to do anything!

Staying productive isn’t just about studying or working hard. It can be fun and add to your summer experience!

Find a new hobby or continue a hobby you’ve neglected

The school year can get so busy that it’s easy to neglect your hobbies. Now that the holiday is here, it’s a great time to get back to your hobby that you’ve forgotten about, or find a new one!

Learn something new

Just because the academic year is over, doesn’t mean that you need to stop learning. And I don’t mean continue looking at your textbooks! Learning can be fun! Maybe that means watching a nature documentary, reading a historical fiction novel, or simply researching a topic that interests you (eg. why do bees sting?)/

💡 Really interested in a topic and want to learn more about it? Try enrolling in an online course. There are a lot of free online courses online that you can participate in!

Do an internship

The holidays are a great way to get some hands-on experience (whether related to your future career interests or not). If you’re still in high school, doing an internship during the holidays can help you determine what you may want to major in in college. Or, if you’re already in college, an internship is a great way for you to gain some real experience in the field of you career interest!

Work part time

Working during the summer holidays doesn’t have to be boring and tiresome. Find a job that interests you and has hours that fit your schedule. There are a lot of jobs that open up only during the summer, so keep a look out on those! Most are jobs in retail stores and restaurants or ice cream shops. These may not seem like much, but they can give you lots of experience working with customers, having more responsibilities, and even allowing you some financial freedom and independence.

Volunteer

Not interested in working? Then volunteer! If there is a cause you’re passionate about, find an organization to volunteer at. This can be a community center, an animal shelter, an orphanage, faith organization, etc.
